Nanotech tea bag creates safe drinking water instantly, for less than a penny

A new "tea bag" uses nano-fibers to suck contaminants and bacteria out of water, providing a desperately-needed, cheap solution for the billions of people without clean drinking water.

Researchers at South Africa's Stellenbosch University made the device from the same material used for the bags of the country's popular rooibos tea. Inside the sachets are two tiny destroyers of all things unsafe: ultra-thin nanoscale fibers, which filter harmful contaminants, and bacteria-killing grains of carbon.

To use the device, a person simply has to place the bag in the neck of a water bottle, and the bag cleans the water as he or she drinks. A single bag can filter up to a liter of even the most heavily polluted water. The bags are thrown away once used.

Holga D - Holga Digtal Camera

Media_httpwwwsaikatbi_xdjjv

Holga D is a digital camera inspired from the extremely popular cult of Holga and other toy cameras of its kind.
Even though it's a digital camera, it retains the qualities and simplicity of the original Holga camera and brings back the joy and delayed gratification associated with good old analog photography.
In past few weeks there has been a huge amount of positive feedback and inquiries about Holga.D.
I would like to see Holga.D is as an open-source camera platform,
co-developed by like minded enthusiasts and professionals from all related fields.
This kind of open-source camera would open up a lot of new possibilities.

Glass prism with multiscreen iPad app makes objects appear 3D to naked eye

Guys at the Aircord lab have just added a very interesting movie clip to our group on Vimeo. The video shows a ‘pyramid shaped screen’ objects with ‘special film’ applied to it. Once an iPad is placed on top of it, running a multiscreen application, a 3D illusion of the object is created, as if they exists in real 3D space. The object can be viewed from multiple angles resulting in real 3D illusion to naked eye.

The multiscreen application on the iPad is made using openFrameworks. The other parts such as the sound reactive examples were made using MaxMSP (download footage files: bit.ly/9u0z5v).

gDitty

gDitty makes moving around a fun, rewarding experience for kids. The gDitty product combines an activity meter with an online rewards program that motivates kids to move more.  The gDitty device is worn on the belt or in a pocket. Activity data recorded by the gDitty is then uploaded to a kids’ personal profile on the gDitty website, where activity is calculated into points. These points can be redeemed for virtual goods and real-world rewards, including customizable avatars, gift cards, even the opportunity to make a donation to a cause.

An interesting approach to fight obesity and surely one that needs further exploration. Technology should play a stronger role when it comes to enabling humanity to solve problems.
